2014 Winter Olympics

In exciting news, the IOC FINALLY approved women’s ski jumping to be an event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. It has only taken them since 1926 when they added men’s ski jumping to recognize it as a competition worthy of the olympics. Which quite frankly, is ridiculous. It has been a bone of contention for quite some time since the field of women jumpers has become increasingly elite and progressive. A group of 15 jumpers even sued the organizing comittee of the Vancouver olympics in order to compete, but their efforts were shot down. (Fun fact- Virginia Madsen chronicled the effort and made a documentary about it called Fighting Gravity in 2009.)

Most importantly to me, women’s and men’s ski halfpipe has been approved as well for the 2014 olympics. It is about time! They have been progressing just as much as snowboarding and it is truly unfortunate that they were not added when the snowboard halfpipe competition was in 1998.

Lastly, I will wait with fingers crossed and much anticipation for the IOC to make their final decision about whether or not slopstyle will make its olympic debut in 2014. The decision has been postponed due to issues with the qualifying system. Many snowboarders feel their should be one tour to qualify on and one system. It is clear that by postponing their decision the committee may be re-evaluating how to proceed. We can only hope!

Side note, a figure skating team event, as well as a luge team relay and biathlon relay were also added for 2014.

tunes on tuesday? haha this song/band are weird, but i love it for some reason. I don’t think it would be as weird if the video wasn’t so damn awkward!

My celebrity girl crush/one of my favorite singers Hayley Williams of Paramore is gracing the cover of Cosmo this month and i’m SO excited about it. So is she, she recently tweeted “What ME?! On the cover of Cosmo? noooo… YESSSSSS! It’s true! I’ll be on the May issue. Gap teeth and all.”

Personally, I think she looks fabulous and click the image below for more pictures from the shoot which are even better! Can’t wait to read the article, which may finally give us some answers about the recent departure of two of the band members, and maybe more about the bands new music, including  “In the Mourning” which she posted the chorus of in January, listen here.

Pretty pumped for carrie underwood that she didn’t let him creep and get a kiss out of her. I feel like after he tries to kiss her, she is just straight up akward and trying not to get too close! creepy old man! but at least she’s more in his age bracket then that Idol contestant who was 17.. progress!

I am a big fan of Amy Adams and so it was no suprise to me that she was cast as Lois Lane in the new Superman remake opposite Henry Cavill.  There have been rumors going around for a while that she was a top pick for the role. I think she’ll make a fabulous Lois! She’s also rumored to be starring in the movie version of “Rock of Ages” and has been confirmed to be starring alongside Jason Segel in his remake of “The Muppets”. Coming off various nominations for her role in the Fighter-  it’s definitely going to be a good year for her!

5 Things You Didn’t Know about Amy Adams:

1. She made her big-screen debut in 1999 in Drop Dead Gorgeous. The movie, which starred Denise Richards, Kirsten Dunst and Ellen Barkin, centers on a small-town beauty pageant that turns deadly as it becomes clear that someone will go to any lengths to win.

2. She played John Krasinski’s girlfriend on NBC’s The Office. Before Jim (Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) finally got together, Adams played Katy, Jim’s girlfriend, on three episodes in 2005-06. Katy arrived at the Scranton, Pa., branch of Dunder-Mifflin as a handbag seller, where both Michael (Steve Carell) and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) hit on her. But she ended up with Jim for a brief period of time, until the Dunder-Mifflin staff goes on a “booze cruise,” where Jim breaks up with her and confesses to Michael his love for Pam. (Adams also played “Cousin Beth” in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)

3. She stars opposite Jason Segel in the upcoming Muppets movie. Adams says she was a huge fan of Jim Henson’s Muppets growing and was thrilled to land a role in the movie, which is scheduled for a Nov. 23 release. She admits she got a little carried away while shooting scenes. “I don’t know if it’s because I grew up watching them or if it’s because I’m a bit nutty, but I completely believed them as my co-stars,” Adams said in an interview with the BBC. “I had wonderful moments listening to them and watching them where I relived parts of my childhood.”

4. She is attached to play Janis Joplin in a biopic about the late singer. Word got out in July that Adams would play the singer, who died in 1970 at age 27 of a heroin overdose. The movie, to be directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God), is called Get It While You Can. It’s just one of several Joplin projects in the works over the years. “Hopefully it will be able to capture her truth,” Adams has said of the movie. “That’s what you always hope when you’re playing somebody of note like that.”

5. She has received three Oscar nominations. Adams was nominated for best supporting actress for 2010’s The Fighter, 2008’s Doubt and 2005’s Junebug, her breakout role.
