I am a big fan of Amy Adams and so it was no suprise to me that she was cast as Lois Lane in the new Superman remake opposite Henry Cavill.  There have been rumors going around for a while that she was a top pick for the role. I think she’ll make a fabulous Lois! She’s also rumored to be starring in the movie version of “Rock of Ages” and has been confirmed to be starring alongside Jason Segel in his remake of “The Muppets”. Coming off various nominations for her role in the Fighter-  it’s definitely going to be a good year for her!

5 Things You Didn’t Know about Amy Adams:

1. She made her big-screen debut in 1999 in Drop Dead Gorgeous. The movie, which starred Denise Richards, Kirsten Dunst and Ellen Barkin, centers on a small-town beauty pageant that turns deadly as it becomes clear that someone will go to any lengths to win.

2. She played John Krasinski’s girlfriend on NBC’s The Office. Before Jim (Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) finally got together, Adams played Katy, Jim’s girlfriend, on three episodes in 2005-06. Katy arrived at the Scranton, Pa., branch of Dunder-Mifflin as a handbag seller, where both Michael (Steve Carell) and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) hit on her. But she ended up with Jim for a brief period of time, until the Dunder-Mifflin staff goes on a “booze cruise,” where Jim breaks up with her and confesses to Michael his love for Pam. (Adams also played “Cousin Beth” in an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)

3. She stars opposite Jason Segel in the upcoming Muppets movie. Adams says she was a huge fan of Jim Henson’s Muppets growing and was thrilled to land a role in the movie, which is scheduled for a Nov. 23 release. She admits she got a little carried away while shooting scenes. “I don’t know if it’s because I grew up watching them or if it’s because I’m a bit nutty, but I completely believed them as my co-stars,” Adams said in an interview with the BBC. “I had wonderful moments listening to them and watching them where I relived parts of my childhood.”

4. She is attached to play Janis Joplin in a biopic about the late singer. Word got out in July that Adams would play the singer, who died in 1970 at age 27 of a heroin overdose. The movie, to be directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God), is called Get It While You Can. It’s just one of several Joplin projects in the works over the years. “Hopefully it will be able to capture her truth,” Adams has said of the movie. “That’s what you always hope when you’re playing somebody of note like that.”

5. She has received three Oscar nominations. Adams was nominated for best supporting actress for 2010’s The Fighter, 2008’s Doubt and 2005’s Junebug, her breakout role.

Oscar noms are out, how exciting! Some year, i will see all the movies on the list. I’ve been saying i’ll do that every year, but really… some year i will! I swear! I have, however, seen a few on this list so i felt like i should highlight who i think will win. I’m probably wrong because i’m basing it on what people are saying/how i feel. Odds are not in my favor, i’ve picked every playoff football game WRONG this year.. Oh well!

The one movie i am still waiting to see is True Grit. I love westerns, i mean how can you not? Black Swan isn’t on my list of things, atleast not yet.. No one i’ve talked to has understood it or said anything other than “it was creepy”, “it was wierd”, “it was sketch”. So i’m not sold that i would enjoy it…

Overall the nominees are predictable, based on what we’ve been hearing all season. However, there was one person notably left off that i felt might deserve a nomination… Andrew Garfield from The Social Network. He didn’t dominate the screen but he certainly set the tone and direction of the movie. He was a strong supporting actor. He wasn’t aggressive and isn’t as well known as actors like Bale and Rush. Had they not been nominated, he might have been given a second glance.

I’m also surprised that the director of Inception wasn’t nominated, that movie was all over the place and even though it took me 24 hours to process the movie and actually understand it, it was good. And whomever, in this case- Christopher Nolan, was able to capture those ideas in that way which flowed and was seamless, should be up for a nomination. But that’s just my opinion.

The win i would like to see is Melissa Leo winning best supporting actress. She played the mother/manager in the fighter and truly embodied and project the character which i have seen walking the streets of boston and other cities in Mass. She even had the accent down to a T. (get it, the T is in boston? ha ha) She already took the Golden Globe so lets keep our fingers crossed, i think she deserves it. But, i would be equally as happy if Amy Adams wins. It was a different, diffcult role for her and she was right on in her portrayal. However, i think it is surprising that Mila Kunis didn’t receive a nod for her role in the black swan, even though i haven’t seen it, there has been much talk about her role.

All in all, the Boston films this year made out well and that makes a local girl like me happy. New England Pride, Batches! (would have liked to see The Town as a best picture nom but i’ll get over it, and no Markie Mark for best actor which was slightly disappointing, he wins for best shirtless role EVER).
