Even though this isn’t a sports blog, nor do i claim to be a sports expert, i do love sports. like alot… plus the boys at NEYD didn’t put this up so i figured i needed to step up 😉

Charlie Davies, (a native of NH!), made his return to the field for DC United 17 months after a horrific accident that left him unable to compete in the World Cup and horribly injured. He broke every major bone in his right leg; the fibula, tibia, and even the thickest bone in the human body, the femur, was shattered and required the insertion of two titanium rods. He tore ligaments in his left knee, fractured his elbow, his eye socket and his nose. He suffered major head trauma and lacerated his bladder. The accident left one dead and the driver was sentenced yesterday to two years in prison after she plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and maiming while driving. Davies was unconscious to see all the fans holding up #9 signs at the match where the USA ultimately qualified for the World Cup the day after his accident. He was lucky to be alive and battled back to playing form one step at a time, his return to the field a far cry from when a 50ft walk on crutches was his big accomplishment..

In his inspiring and impressive return, Davies scored two goals, the first on a penalty kick, 14 minutes apart in his return to soccer. Poised to become a real threat this season, his notorious breakaway speed and ferocious turn of pace have returned and has myself and others wondering whether Davies’ return to the sport will be one of the greatest achievements in sporting history.
